Aarhus

The round-table negotiations where we investigate the implementation of the Aarhus Convention (“on Access to Information, Public Participation in Decision-making and Access to Justice in Environmental Matters”) in Hungary in the field of nuclear energy  is realised as part of an EU initiative. We sit down with parties playing a determining role in nuclear energy management (industry, authorities, government bodies, office of parliamentary commissioners, legal and professional organisations) to discuss our experiences and make suggestions for increasing transparency and public participation in decision-making in the nuclear field. With approval from the round-table a smaller working group is preparing specific suggestions that can lead to proposals and positions. The working group includes representatives from the Energiaklub and the following organisations: the Office of the Data Protection Commissioner, the Office of the Commissioner for Future Generations, the Hungarian Atomic Energy Authority, the Environmental Management and Law Association (EMLA), the Hungarian Electricity Works (MVM), the Paks Nuclear Power Plant and the Public Limited Company for Radioactive Waste Management. The work of the group and the round-table is coordinated by the Regional Environmental Center.
